Overnight Oatmeal and Fruit 'Ice Cream'
Thought for sure I would need to go to the walk-in clinic today for a sinus infection or strep or something that needed help sorting itself out, but by some miracle, after downing some Benylin (if that was what it was, it was 2 am and I was desperate) my symptoms began to turn around and I slept! I woke up feeling darn near human. ((Sidebar: I do not take cold medicine well, it tastes so terrible and I nearly vomit as it hits my mouth. I have to plug my nose for 5 minutes after to keep it in there... blech!! So I avoid at all costs))
The night before I had made some 'overnight oatmeal' with some wheat free steel cut oats. I tried to follow a 'chai' flavoured version but halfway through I realized I lacked half the spices. Oh well!
It did the job. I made hubby his own version using different stuff, went for a chocolate peanut butter flavour. Will report how his was whenever he eats it.
Recipe:
1/2 C steel cut oats
1/2 C Greek yogurt vanilla
1/2 C Cashew milk (this is a new thing, I quite like it!! May become my go to over almond, soy and coconut)
and then I just freehanded cinnamon, nutmeg (too much), maple syrup, and some copped pecans for fun.
Let sit overnight.
Now maybe cashew milk doesn't absorb so well, or maybe I did something wrong, but my oats were still rather chewy. I ended up warming up my jar and it was much, much better! 2 more jars for 2 more days waiting for me.
And since I didn't get my LSD yesterday I did 5 km on Miller today. I was granted this due to the children starting school today!!!!! Oh it was wonderful to not worry about anyone "Mom-ing" me. I read. I am getting better at reading on the mill and it keeps me more entertained then music. My form stays better, I am paying less attention to the time etc. I would watch TV or movies but the iPad doesn't get very good wifi down in the dungeon. (It is a very nice dungeon though). Hoping to get half an hour on the spinbike after kids to go bed but I don't know. I should sleep early tonight again and kick this cold.
And then we had a nice heart meal, roast, I love roast. And followed it with 'fruit ice cream'. Frozen fruit pulverized by the vitamix into a soft serve type substance. Call it whatever but if I call it 'ice cream' the children will eat it. I added spinach. They did not notice. Mom 1 Kids 0.
Tomorrow: keep my snacks small, my meals properly portioned, drink MORE water, get a weight session in of any kind and hopefully some spin. And run. Because I am streaking? Right.

I streak!
Anyways, I woke up finally around 7, and looked out side (it had been raining all night, no SNOW that they were predicting) and it had just a dusting of snow/rain and was raining. By 730 I had had a coffee and was making the decision... to run or not to run. 16 km in the snow (it was now snowing) Would be fun... 16 km with a cold and possibly letting my immune system down for a bit could be terrible awful. Then hubby called and said he would be late... 830... that gives me about 1 minute to drive to Running Room and go... The decision was made, I stay home.
I had a headache an hour later. And went to get groceries (next to Running Room actually) and it was horrid out. It was a good decision. It was wet icy pellet snow. Blech!
Sat around all day, ate moderately okay (that would be good right?)
Did not consume enough water (working on that now)
And generally spent the day doing nothing, while hoping the kids would magically be ready for school tomorrow.
5:45 the kids were down playing in the basement and I was debating.... do I go sludge a mile on Miller (yes that's my treadmill) or not.... it might make me feel better.... it might add steps to my stepless fitbit day...
So I did. :)
I suppose that makes today RunStreak Day 5. Go me!
Tomorrow... the littles are at school. I get 2.5 hours of FREE TIME, and since I missed todays 16, if I am feeling better, I will try and do 10 or something. Fingers crossed.
Moms have no time to be sick.

To Streak or Not to Streak
Today was a successful calorie count!! Do I feel hungry? Yes! Does a person always feel hungry for the first few days when they stop stuffing themselves silly? YES! So I'm good, basically.
I pretty much sat on my tuckus all day today. There may or may not be a cold creeping into my throat/nose. I will go with not. It shall be gone tomorrow. Be Gone!
And then just before I went to retrieve my little people from their visit I wavered in the hall. There was a voice in me. "You could just hop on the treadmill.... Slog along for a mile at barely more than a walk... And it would count as a streak day if you wanted to..." so I chose the running shoes, turned on the Garmin to at least track my time, you know, as proof, and schlumped a mile.
It is supposed to possibly briefly snow tonight. Maybe the only snow of the season by the looks. It's been saying snow for hours and the flakes have yet to appear. But if they do, I have 16 km tomorrow that would be wonderful to run with snow falling. Plus playing with my kids before and after. Yes I am that mom at 6 am, waking them up because I am excited to play in the snow. No, it doesn't get old for me.
Out.

Second Day of a New year!
I did however get to try some frozen fruit turned into 'frozen yogurt' type dessert by a Yonanas machine. I may need one.
I also made myself a fabulous green smoothie after my run, and in case you are wondering how the heck did I do that today.. here are the ingredients:
Apple Pie Smoothie:
1 Apple, core removed
Some handfuls of baby kale (mine was frozen, you can use spinach or regular kale etc, fresh or frozen)
Cinnamon, as much as you like, I add a ton
Water (also could use milk or almond milk etc)
And for good luck I added some Vega Protein...
Blend and Enjoy.
(disclaimer: I have a Vitamix and it takes care of all chance of clumps... smooooooooth)
I mostly kept my myfitnesspal account up to track. Must add my yonanas and other things. Crap. I did have chocolate like substance. If I didn't sit here to write this I would not have remembered. Such is life.
Went for a short 3 km run around the block. Didn't feel awesome, but didn't feel bad. I need to stretch these body parts more though, like right after I am done typing.
I also did some quick weights. I will probably feel it in my legs and arms tomorrow but I know that I need to treat myself to weights once or twice a week.
I also officially weighed in today for the year. And it was horrible. So so bad. I know I am small and not to really 'worry' about it. But when you have an inner tube type looking body part around the middle, 10 pounds can really make a difference! I am border line needing new clothes and we just cannot have THAT!
Anyways, onto the weekend and the rest of the crazy Christmas Chaos cleanup. Kids are back to school Monday and hopefully that means 3 days a week with peace and quiet where I can get my good, strong workouts in, my runs, and also think about proper nutrition. ;) Like no chocolate. ... Or ice cream.
I know I ramble. I will get better I promise, but my time is just so limited I just start putting it all down as soon as it comes to my mind!!
Til tomorrow!

New Year...New (probablymostlythesame) Me
Happy New Year! It's only been just a little while. But alas, it is a new year and I think my blog deserves more attention (at least from me).
A recap of my year:
Actually I draw a blank.
I ran a bunch
Walked some
Did a lot of spinning
Saw a lot of physio and chiropractic
Laughed a lot
Played a lot
Cried some
And looking back, it made a great year!
But this year coming, oh my, the challenges I have set forth!
Jan 1 Resolution Run! Complete! 4.9km 29:some seconds
Jan 25 Hypothermic Half
May 3 BMO Van Half
May 17 RnR Portland Half
May 23 Color Me Rad 5k
May 31 Run 4 Water 10k
June 13 RnR Seattle FULL Marathon
Oct 25 RnR Vancouver Half
I have no actual time goals.... maybe for the Vancouver Half but it's quite far away. I want to stay injury free (apart from constant active recovery from what ails me currently) and complete training for and the actual full itself. A FULL Marathon. Ugh. I'm scared to death. My self competitive side says 4:30, my reasonable side says "it's your first try, just get there pain free and finish before they sweep you"... so somewhere in the middle is good. I can guesstimate a time closer, I know I will.
Health and Wellness wise, I know everyone says it, but I need to lose some weight. No seriously, today I had to ax some pant choices because they were the 'too small' that rolls down while you run. 10 lb gain in 3 months.... NO GOOD!!
I had ice cream before heading to bed and writing this. It's not really a nutritional fail because I had no goal set. :) see how I did that?
And in losing a few pounds naturally comes eating properly. Perhaps I'll make myself accountable on here.
My juicer and Vitamix miss me too, I even know how to use them.
And lastly, my Resolution Run 2015 recap.
I slept in until 8am! Holy Toledo good thing it started at 10 this year instead of 9. I never sleep that late, but it was much appreciated.
My Ma and StepDad signed up this year, too, which I think was kind of exciting for them. They are embracing more fitness all the time and it seems to make them happier.
Got there with some time to wait.
It was sunny, crisp, still, wonderful! I could run on days like today every day! It was also -4 when we started.
My toque was too big. That was kind of annoying.
My feet were frozen numb for the first half km. That was also annoying.
But after running so many km feeling so slow (6:45-7:00/km) for the past few months, I actually managed to average 6/km! No walk breaks. Very happy with myself.
My feet are rather sore now but that is my fault for not exercising and stretching them how I should. :/ ok add that to my health and wellness must do list!
Maybe this year I'll figure out how to design this blog a bit better too ..... :-) maybe
That's it for now!

Sunday Runday.... Yesterday
I think I also began talking to someone I had caught up with around here, which dragged me down quite a bit. Note to self: talking and me makes running harder. ;) Even on a long slow.
So I really had to keep my mind occupied to get to 18 which put me at a slight incline hill, that we all dread.... I could have stopped and walked the last km but it was just ONE km, so I pushed through it, slowly, terribly.
I completed my 19 in 2 hour 5 minutes, not toooo bad. One 18 and one 20 before race day left.
I tried Stinger Cherry Cola chews this time, I had 2 every other 1 minute break (so about every 20 minutes), I think this worked but I will try it again this weekend to be sure. I have been having so much trouble with upset stomach during runs that I had to try something that wasn't Gu.
I didn't get the upset stomach until around km 15 or so I think. That is not too bad for me. And it wasn't completely debilitating (bonus).
Back at the store I walked around more than after other long runs, maybe 5 minutes, until I knew I could make the 3 minute drive home without doing something terrible in my car.
I had my quick hot bath and got dressed and crawled in bed to assume the fetal position my body was beginning to crave. But after 5 minutes, my DDs came in and I forced myself out of bed. I was a little wobbly ;) BUT I think it was best I stayed out of bed, walking around kept me fully functioning and not dying in bed for hours!! I even had a dance party in the kitchen not too long after. For me this is progress.
Around 3pm my hunger hit. At 5 we had spaghetti with tomato/meat sauce. This almost did my guts in but I prevailed. :)
I had a nice sound solid sleep .... until 5am. Oh well!
Today I had a nice recovery day, 40 minutes on the treadmill just casual walking (got to keep those fitbit steps up!).
And super excited that my Dynamaxx products arrived today. Now I can truly try them and be excited to either keep using them myself (because they better do good things) or use them myself AND promote them onto others. Lets hope the latter works out well. :)
Tonight I shall try my lights off. And see how it tastes and how my sleep goes. :D
